OUR CULTURE AND THE CHANGE DYNAMICS
overcoming disability challenges
The oxford dictionary defined disability as a “physical or mental condition that means you cannot use any part of your body completely so easily”. However, I see disability as a challenge and it comes in different forms, it could be physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual. Whichever form it occurs, it is a challenge.
The big question remains, how can you and I as challenged person deal with these challenges especially in a society that makes it unbearable?
There are so many steps to take, but I will only mention just few. The first step is to have a ‘Strong Positive Mindset’ about the situation and staying focused, this is necessary because the society and the environment you find yourself mounts pressure on you daily thereby making you feel worthless and miserable. Therefore, if you are not careful, you might begin to grub that feeling of self-pity, a feeling that makes you seem worthless and at other times you would start condemning yourself; laying blames on God and/or your parents or guardians as the case may be.
Strong positive mindset will help you to look beyond the challenge and further propel you to create and seize productive opportunities to challenge your innate ability.
The next step is ‘Never Give Up Attitude’, if you try once, twice, thrice or more and you fail, don’t see yourself as a total failure. This kind of attitude will give you the requisite strength to keep striving until you achieve your set goal.
On a final note, ‘Chose To Be Happy’, don’t get me wrong, it does not mean that you’d have no reason to worry, the underlining factor is you don’t need to sock yourself or stunned to the point of losing your happiness. Try hard to engage yourself on activities that makes you happy always, put your personal challenges aside and put a smile on someone’s face today.
